My Track Record & History

A proven history of active, dedicated service on council and boards. Grounded in community engagement, respect for the taxpayer, and tangible delivery.

Milestones of Action

Rather than political buzzwords, here are the concrete results I delivered during my term.

💵
2023 - 2026Finance

Rejected Council Pay Raises — 48% District & 11.2% Huntsville

Rejected the proposed 48% District Council pay raise as the only Finance & Corporate Services Committee member (of seven) to vote against. Pushed to have the raise pulled and voted on separately at full district council, where all four Huntsville Councillors then voted no. Also one of only three members of Council to vote against an 11.2% Huntsville Council pay increase. Fought runaway staffing growth with motions to eliminate unneeded positions and reform the budget process.

2024Efficiency

Scrutiny & Reform of the Muskoka Airport

Identified $1.6M+ taxpayer subsidy. Initially proposed sale, then pivoted to creating a municipal services corporation with a skills-based board (with Councillor Guy Burry) to reduce subsidy and move toward break-even budgeting.

🏥
2024 - 2026Healthcare

Doctor Recruitment Incentive Program

Created Huntsville’s doctor recruitment incentive program to address doctor shortages. Powered by a funding model of municipal accommodation tax + local business community incentives. Set a 4-year goal of 10 new doctors — and recruited 9 in just 2 years, with our 10th close to signing, more prospects in the pipeline and no impact on the property tax levy.

🤖
2025Technology

AI Efficiency & Workflow Innovation

Introduced the opportunities AI provides to district and town — starting to implement AI to deliver better, more efficient public services, automate routine workflows, and save taxpayer money.

⚙️
2025 - 2026Governance

Eliminating Redundancies & Duplication of Services

Presented a report to district committee proposing thorough review of development process, including potential elimination of upper-tier planning to streamline process and make housing more affordable; raised discussion about downloading district roads to lower-tier municipalities.

🏡
2023 - 2025Housing

Affordable Housing Action Plan

Continued work with Muskoka Community Land Trust and built on the affordable housing action plan. Fought to allow smaller severances in rural areas (historical 200ft lots) and standardized pre-approved accessory dwelling units (ADUs).

Committees & Boards of Impact

I didn't just attend council meetings. I served on eight boards and committees to directly guide healthcare, housing, and infrastructure.

A Lifetime of Service

The Story Behind the Record

Huntsville has been home since I arrived in Grade 11 in 1992. I built my career here, owned and managed local businesses, raised two children, coached close to 20 youth teams across three sports, and served on numerous community boards long before entering municipal politics.

“I believe that if you are elected, you need to respect the person who is paying your salary. That means working extremely hard, asking the difficult questions, and finding ways to improve our town without costing the taxpayers more money.”

Integrity Under Pressure: A True Story

"During my last term on council, a very wealthy and influential individual called my personal line. He wanted to influence my vote on an upcoming development decision that would have benefited him in an immense financial way. I listened, but I knew his proposal was bad for our taxpayers and bad for Huntsville's future.

I went to council and voted against his project. Shortly after, he called me back, called me a traitor, and hasn't spoken to me since.

But that is a price I am willing to pay. I will always do the right thing for the taxpayer, no matter who is on the other end of the line."
